Beautiful Thinking – EYFS metacognition

Beautiful Thinking front cover - painting of two young children on a tree branch. Metacognition in the Early Years. Philosophical teaching and parenting from birth to five. A Thinking Moves A-Z book with foreword by Roger Sutcliffe.

Another book I recommend to both teachers and parents is Beautiful Thinking, by teacher Dulcinea Norton-Morris. You may have heard me mention it; it’s a fascinating read as well a great resource to support young children’s language and cognitive development.

In an accessible way, Dulcie shows how Thinking Moves A-Z can be used successfully with very young children. It includes

  • Practical tips and ideas for using each Thinking Move with 3-5s, toddlers, and even babies!

  • Tips for overcoming barriers including Special Educational Needs.

  • Planning examples for talk and philosophy sessions with young children.
