Shut the door!

When you want to have whole-class dialogue, it’s essential to create the conditions in which everyone can hear each other and think about what is being said.

Of course, working on pupil audibility is part of this, but the simple act of closing your classroom door can also have a huge impact.

Shutting the door reduces background noise, and signals to your class that this moment of dialogue is important.

When I was sat near the door, all I could hear was people outside the class talking.
