One of my favourite things about working with schools on oracy is hearing from teachers about the impact on confidence.
It sounds dramatic, but when done well, oracy is transformational.
“All my children have so much confidence now!
In previous classes there were always a few who were shy.
Now they’ll all speak!”
“Students used to shake with fear when asked to share their views and opinions in a whole class setting.
Now they fully expect it and are eager to share what they think.
It’s just what we do.”
“Using strategies such as speaker chooses or speaker rounds has ensured that all pupils expect to offer a response.
This has meant that the more reserved children participate,
but also that the more confident students have to allow them to. ”
